Anchors active

In Neuro Linguistic Programming one of my personal favourites and fun skills to learn is Anchoring. We learn the basic skills of anchoring in Practitioner and then the more advanced techniques at the Master Practitioner Level (Advanced anchoring is loads of fun!).

Anchoring is a skillset and tool which you will find really interesting and you'll discover many practical ways in which you can use it daily.

Why fix an anchor?

Do you Hate answering the phone or find making cold callsa challenge

How about a fear of speaking in public - you see the crowd and quiver...

or Everytime the boss looks at you in a certain way - you feel insecure and nervous.

What if you could CHANGE all that !

You cn learn how to easily link feelings of self-confidence, power, fun and success to the feeling of a phone receiver in your hand and/or the sound of a ring - triggering a thought of "Great another opportunity" . Changing the self talk and feelings
associated to certain anchors to make work or relationships easier and more fun - being in a powerful state of mind, which in turn will give you a better result every time.

You may not be aware that you are already anchored already to loads of things (stop signs, traffic lights, door bells, advertisement slogans). Notice when your in a cafe or restaurant - How often do you see people reaching into their bag or pocket when they hear a mobile phone ring? It's an automatic response right? You can't help it, sometimes you'll even check your phone when you know it's not even your ring tone! It triggers a response or reaction within you - just like a string tied to your finger.

We all have positive and negative anchors, you may be surprised to find out that we have anchors in our relationships, for example when a certain someone calls out our name in a certain way you may find that your react instantly with either a positive or negative emotional state ; or at work - our approach/attitude can change when we see the company's sign or as we look at our our desk... but interestingly enough, a lot of the time - it's mostly unconscious, we are not even aware of these feeling and thoughts we have or that we are negativley or positively anchored to it!!

In NLP we learn how to anchor with a purpose, become more aware of our personal anchors and change the ones that don't work - so our reactions are positive, helpful and more valuable towards our objectives.

We learn how to do this consciously and set up more powerful anchors to change not only our thinking and self talk but to change any emotional barriers. Being able to consciously link specific positive emotions to a specific things, people or sounds in a more practical and helpful way. To make our lives easier !

What is Anchoring?

To put it Simply when you have an positive and powerful experience - like when you ace that wining point in a tennis match grand final or kick a goal for your team, make that multi million dollar sale - automatically feelings of ecstasy or excitement will well up within you. And then as you listen to the roar of the crowd, see the faces of pleasure and proudness from your friends, fans and family the excitement may grow further. These feelings of pleasure, power, energy and excitement reach a peak AND if you link that peak with a specific stimulus - Like a clenching of your first punching the air or screaming out a phrase like "Come on" - and you're creating your own personal anchor. (and a powerful one at that!! Especially if it's an important one for you) AND if you use the same action/phrase every time you're in that same peak state of mind you'll continue to build that anchor creating something special for you to use again and again, especially in those times when you need that boost and want to get into that feeling and perfect state of mind.

How do you create an Anchor

Recall a past vivid experience, which is a state which you want to anchor

Anchor that state by Calibrating your client (using your sensory acuity skills) or being self aware of when you are at the peak of that state with a specific stimulus.

Change the state or Break state after

Evoke the state by testing your Kinesthetic, visual or auditory anchor

The Secrets to successful Anchors...

Intensity of the state - Use and choose powerful and Strong state which have pure and intense feelings and associations.

Timing - ensure the timing of your anchor is adequate to capture the peak (between 5 - 5 seconds)

Unique - choose a stimulus which is appropriate for your client and which you can re-apply the anchor for stacking or evoking that state.

Replication - Use the exact same position and location

Number of Times - to get the best results it may be necessary to build up the anchor a number of times creating a strong and successful anchor.

Once you can be Active with your Anchoring, you'll find it is a powerful tool to use with other techniques like in hypnosis or when assisting someone to quit smoking or get over a phobia. Anchoring is a powerful tool to help people feel more motivated about a project. It's an important skill of NLP and you'll be amazed as to how you'll find it to be so effective, easy and discover just how much fun it can be...especially in your relationships.
